History
of Saturday Conservatory
In 1966 Carl Bruce, music coordinator for the East Los Angeles area of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and his wife Ellen, a music teacher in the area, along with Robert Runge, Professor of Music Education at California State University Los Angeles organized the Cal State L.A. Saturday Conservatory of Music. The purpose of the Conservatory was, and still is, to provide a low cost more individualized musical experience than is offered in regular school music programs.
In 2000, the Conservatory moved to its current location at the Lake Avenue Church campus in order to continue its mission to provide quality, low-cost music education for students in the greater Los Angeles Area.
