8:30 Orchestra

The Saturday Conservatory 8:30 Orchestra is designated for musicians without any previous orchestra experience.

Minimal music experience is required. Students should be able to read the first few notes on their instrument.

8:30 Orchestra has musicians of differing ages, but of the same musical abilities.

Placement evaluations are conducted to place students in the proper orchestra, based on their skill level.

This orchestra performs at the end of each quarter along with the other Saturday Conservatory performance ensembles.

8:30 Orchestra is conducted by Ms. Deborah Cha, who will be joining us for the first time this year.  She is talented conductor and educator.  She has taught for many years for the Los Angeles, Pasadena and San Gabriel School Districts. 

 

9:30 Orchestra

The Saturday Conservatory 9:30 Orchestra is designated for musicians with some previous orchestral experience, or with higher musical skills.

 

The literature performed is more challenging than music for the 8:30 Orchestra, and requires more musical background and skills.

 

Placement evaluations are conducted to place students in the proper orchestra, based on their skill level.

This orchestra performs at the end of each quarter along with the other Saturday Conservatory performance ensembles.

10:30 Orchestra

The Saturday Conservatory 10:30 Orchestra is designated for musicians with higher musical skills, and significant background in orchestral playing.

 

The literature is quite challenging and requires an advanced level of proficiency.

 

As with all of our orchestras placement evaluations are conducted to place students in the proper orchestra, based on their skill level.

This orchestra performs at the end of each quarter along with the other Saturday Conservatory performance ensembles.

The 10:30 Orchestra is conducted by Denise Quan, who teaches at Virgil Middle School in Los Angeles, and has taught piano previously at Saturday Conservatory.

Youth Symphony West

The Youth Symphony West is the most advanced Orchestra, and is designated for advanced level musicians on all instruments.

Literature is drawn from standard orchestral literature, as would be played by major symphony orchestras.

As with all of our orchestras, placement evaluations are conducted to place students in the proper orchestra, based on their skill level.

Musicians in Youth Symphony West have many performance opportunities in addition to the Saturday Conservatory concerts which occur at the end of each quarter.

The conductor of the Youth Symphony West is Tom Mazur, who has conducted the orchestra for eight years.  He teaches orchestra in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.
